ZAMBIA’S
ADVENTIST POPULATION BECOMES SECOND LARGEST GLOBALLY
Zambia has emerged as one of the strongest pillars of Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) growth in the world, ranking second globally in terms of membership according to the 2024 Annual Statistical Report by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. With a total of 1,465,379 baptised members, Zambia trails only behind Brazil with 1,807,503 baptised members and has surpassed larger and more populous countries such as the United States, India, and the Philippines in terms of Adventist membership.
This
growth shows that the church’s way of spreading its message is working well and
that the Adventist teachings fit closely with Zambian culture and beliefs.

FACTORS
DRIVING SDA GROWTH IN ZAMBIA
Several
factors have contributed to the growth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Zambia. These include strong community engagement through health, education,
and humanitarian ministries that have fostered trust among communities; robust
evangelistic programmes\ supported by nationwide campaigns and extensive use of
mainstream media such as the national broadcaster, private television and radio
stations, as well as Hope Channel Zambia; and a focus on youth empowerment
through Adventist schools and Pathfinder clubs, which has helped attract and
retain younger people. Apart from that, the
Church’s lifestyle emphasising health, family values, and spiritual discipline aligns
closely with Zambia’s cultural and moral values, further enhancing its appeal.
